charger base pushed himself on his head and heard a gentle POP from deep within him. He turned himself over and said, "At least I feel a lot better. I wonder what I should do now?"
About five seconds passed and suddenly a 3D hologram appeared. It looked exactly like Clancy, but was not real. "Clancy, I am a hologram of you.", the hologram said softly, "I was installed at the time of your creation just for this moment." "Nice to meet you." said Clancy, "So I guess you know how to crack to code so I can become Superbot?" "Yes, its true. I can tell you how to crack the code. However, since I am part of you, I also know about your plan of deception. You cannot hide anything from me. I know you have no intention of fulfilling the obligations of Superbot. You see, once you become Superbot, there is
no turning back." "Well if you ask me, this just stinks! I didn't choose to be Queen Charise' son, dare I say, the Prince of Robotica.", Clancy exclaimed, in a loud voice, "I am very happy as a domestic robot and I intend to stay here with the Franks. No one can make me become Superbot!" The hologram looked at Clancy with a twinkle in his eye, "Clancy, you are right, no one can make you become Superbot. Let's just forget the whole thing." The hologram disappeared in an instant. Clancy thought, "Somehow, I don't think I've seen the last of him".
Clancy went back to his R & R. When the seven days were up, he went back to his chores. One day, while Clancy was mopping the kitchen floor, Janey came in. "Hi Clancy!", she said in a happy voice. "Hello, Miss Janey", Clancy replied in his robotic monotone. Clancy has several different voices, natural deep, natural medium and robotic monotone. The Franks prefer robotic monotone because it makes Clancy sound more like a robot than a person. John's philosophy is "We can't ever let Clancy forget his place. Otherwise, he may decide to cause trouble." "What are you doing today Miss Janey?", Clancy said. Janey replied, "I am going to play on the swing set." Clancy said "Ok, I will enter your activity into my log. Have fun." Janey went outside and Clancy continued mopping. Clancy thought to himself, "Oh, how nice it is to have these young children to interact with! Life is good. Life is good."
A few hours later, Jill came downstairs wondering what Janey was up to. "Janey, Janey", she called, but heard no answer. "That's strange. I wonder where she is? Let me check Clancy's log" Jill said while punching a few buttons on Clancy's chest. "Hmmm, it says she went out to play on the swing set, but I don't see her there. Jill searched for about fifteen minutes and then found John. "John, do you know where Janey is?" "No, I saw her on the swing set awhile ago, but I've been busy and was not paying attention." Jill said, "Well, I've been searching the whole house and can't find her. I think it's time to check the security system."
John had installed a very sophisticated security system. No one enters or leaves the property without being recorded on a security camera. The cameras cover every entrance. The security system has one hundred twenty motion sensor. Each time a motion sensor is tripped, a camera turns to the source of the motion. John does not believe in leaving anything to chance. John checked the log and the video footage. There was no sign of suspicious activity. John said, "She'll turn up when she gets hungry." Jill was flabbergasted. "Hold on a minute, we're talking about our 9 year old daughter, not the family pet! I don't care how fool proof you think this system is, I'm calling the police!", she exclaimed.
By the time the police arrived, it had been three hours since Clancy had logged Janey's trip to the swing set. John and Jill both gave their accounts to the police. Jill showed the officer in charge Clancy's log while John reviewed the security system logs with the detective. The police decided to issue an Amber Alert for immediate release.
While all this was happening, Clancy was quietly eaves dropping. He started to become anxious. "Oh, no!", he
thought. "Janey can't be missing, she just can't be! What are we going to do!"
The officer in charge spoke to John and Jill. "Folks, I am sure you know this does not look good. In abduction cases like this, if the perpetrator is not apprehended within the first three hours, chances of a good outcome are greatly reduced." Jill started to sob loudly. "Now hold on, ma'm. I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to paint a realistic picture. We will do everything in our power to find your daughter." The room became very quiet.
Clancy heard what the officer said. "This can't be happening!", he thought. Just then, the phone rang with a piercing "RRRRiiiiinnnnng, RRRRiiiiinnnnng." Everyone jumped and looked at the officer in charge. "Answer it and act normal", he said. "It could be a kidnapper. We are already tracing the call."
