The Adventures of Superbot |
|
In the last "Adventures of Superbot", Superbot was trapped in the body of a white terrier. He summoned C-Thru, who asked him to morph into a TV news anchor on the wall-mounted TV. C-Thru contacted his mother, Queen Charise, since she is the only one who can change Superbot back into himself. Superbot had not seen his mother since childhood and had no memory of her. Superbot talked to his mother about his new life with the Franks. He told her how John Frank programmed him to be a domestic robot. Then Queen Charise dropped a bombshell by suggesting John programmed him to be happy as Clancy, but was this meant to be? We rejoin our story as Superbot ponders the unthinkable. Superbot thought hard about whether John programmed him to be happy as a domestic robot. He stared at the ceiling of the news room. As he looked up, he began to sweat. But this time, the sweat did not make him invisible. Sweat started visibly rolling off his face. He became uncomfortable. The sweat was uncontrollable. It wouldn’t stop! He looked around nervously. He became very embarrassed. He couldn’t think! Suddenly, Queen Charise broke the silence. “Son, is something wrong?”, she said in a gentle voice. Superbot replied in an angry voice, “Yes, as a matter of fact there is. I am deeply hurt that you suggested John programmed me to be happy as a domestic robot. And so what if he did? Of course he wants me to be |

Thatch is a layer of roots and dead grass stems that lays between the green, growing grass and the soil. A thin layer of thatch (less than 1/2 inch deep) is important for lawn health. A thin thatch layer protects the lawn from extreme heat or cold and provides cushioning to prevent soil compaction in high traffic areas. Soil compaction prevents oxygen and nitrogen from entering the soil. These gases promote root growth and contribute to the appropriate nutrient mix in the soil. Good soil is one of the most important factors for a healthy lawn so soil compaction prevention is definitely a good thing. |

When thatch becomes thicker than 1/2 inch, many problems can occur. Thatch acts like a sponge, soaking up moisture, but unfortunately, it dries out quickly. It holds few nutrients. Once thatch becomes too thick, the grass roots may start growing in it and never reach the soil. Since thatch has few nutrients, this is a recipe for a grass disaster. Thatch also creates grass stress in drought conditions. The thatch soaks up most of the water, the water evaporates and little water makes it to the soil. No water in the soil means the grass will not receive the soaking it needs to recover from a drought. Other thatch problems include harboring insects and harmful bacteria. |
